RR # 5

In this article Seelye is showing how numbers on magazine are uses d as a selling point. She say that the editor of the magazines are increasingly using numbers because it grabs the audience, it shows some what the content of the magazine, and it makes the audience see the topic in a different way.  For example the editors are careful on what they give a high number and what they give a low numbered. If the magazine is trying to cover exercising to lose weight they would use low numbers of exercise that can be done for results.  This makes it more desirable to the readers. Now on the other hand if the magazines are trying to show summers lasts trends they would use high numbers. This would show readers that they have plenty of fashion tips.  I tend to agree with what she is stating I never thought to look at the cover page of a magazine like that before.  I think that the title does a ok job at getting the main point that she feels across but, I would of tried to word it a different way.  If the audience was mostly toward the arts section of the times she would have showed how the numbers on magazines would have played a part in the art world. She could have used magazines geared directly towards the arts as examples of the number game.  I think her chose to use interviews was a good idea the fact that she interviewed editors of varies magazines shows how each one feels about the numbers game. She could have got comments from the readers as well to show how it truly affects them.  The fact that she shows that numbers are used with famous actors and actresses to help as a selling point. She gives several examples from three different magazines.
