pumpkin 2 of 2
I got the paint and decided it would be best to wait till
tonight when the kids asked to do them before I told them how we was doing
them. We had just finished eating when of course my son was the first one to
ask. I told them to let me get the dishes done and we would get started. As
soon as I was done I got the pumpkins and paint out and told them all to sit
down. I think my son was looking at me all crazy when he asked what we need the
paint for. I told the kids that this year we were going to try something new
that this year we were going to paint the pumpkins and see how that looked. At
first I don’t think that they thought it would be as fun as cutting them open.
I started with the youngest (Kinzie) first which in its self is funny because
they are twins. I started by asking what kind of face she wanted then noise and
eyes. I went down the row doing this and in about a half hour I was done. They
were all excited to see them and I think even without them glowing they would have
loved them. Now that the pumpkins were done it was time to make the cookies.
When the cookies got done we all set down and got ready to see what the
pumpkins looked like in the dark. I could not believe how they glowed the kids
went nuts they loved it. It was at that moment, (like I said at the beginning
of this) that I realized that I would never have to carve pumpkins again. I
told you that I realized a couple of things the whole not having to crave
pumpkins is one and the other is that chocolate chip cookies can make anything
better.
The old tradition of carving pumpkins, the ideas sounds fun right. I remember being young and carving pumpkins with my family. Of course I was too little to cut out the face, so I didn’t have to do much. I would always have to take the goop out of the pumpkin, the best part until it started to smell. I also hated the way it hardened on my hands. I have not carved a pumpkin in a long time, like you we would always use paint. Paint makes the whole process so much easier. Last year we did something different with our pumpkin. We painted the pumpkin black, and we got these pieces that you stick in the pumpkin to turn it into a bat. I thought it was so cool, you don’t normally see a pumpkin turned into a bat. This year was different we just sat to bare pumpkins out. With our busy schedule it’s hard to get anything done. My family is also older so we are growing out of the tradition of decorating pumpkins. Sometimes I wish I was little again, it just made the holidays so much more fun.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that you were able to still let your kids decorate pumpkins. Even though you did not carve one, I bet it was equally fun. Who knows maybe next year they will be asking to paint the pumpkin rather than carve. You can only hope! Well I am glad you pumpkins turned out great, and I bet they look great for Halloween!
Reading this really makes me wish that I was younger again and could carve and paint a pumpkin right now ha! I used to do it all the time as a kid and I loved it so much. I was always really into cutting the pumpkins open and sticking my hands all down inside the “pumpkin gunk” is what I would call it ha! My church just put on this fall festival and we helped all of the kids pick out pumpkins and then help them paint them. It was a lot of fun because it brought back a lot of memories of when I used to do it. In my family after we would carve them, my parents would usually keep the seeds, wash them off, and then bake them in the oven. Oooh the smell of toasted pumpkin seeds baking in the oven :) I can smell it right now as I type this ha! I can’t wait to have kids and be able to take them trick-or-treating and be able to pass on the family tradition of painting and carving pumpkins. Although I don’t really do that stuff anymore, I can’t wait to be able to do it with my family. It really does bring the family together and have lots of fun :) and chocolate chip cookies just makes everything soo much better ha! It sounds like you had a lot of fun being able to share that time with your kids, and even though you didn’t carve them, painting them and spending that time together is just as fun!
